What We Do

Boy Scouts of America prepares young people to make ethical choices throughout life by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Scout Law. Our motto is Be Prepared.

Open from 8:30am to 5:30pm Monday Through Friday and Select Saturdays

The Golden Spread Council provides its programs through collaboration with community organizations in 56 communities in 27 counties of the Texas and Oklahoma Panhandles.  The mission of the Boy Scouts of America is to prepare young people to make ethical choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.  The Boy Scouts of America offer 4 programs: Cub Scouts is a year-round family and home centered program that develops ethical decision making skills for boys and girls in the first through fifth grade (or who are 7, 8, 9, and 10 years old). Activities emphasize character development, citizenship training, and personal fitness.  Boy Scouts is a year-round program for boys ages 11 through 17, designed to achieve the aims of Scouting through a vigorous outdoor program and peer group leadership with the counsel of an adult Scoutmaster. This program revolves around leadership opportunity, decision making, hiking, camping, and personal achievement.  Scouts are exposed to over 120 hobby and career choices, frequently resulting in life-long involvement.  Venturing provides opportunities for young adults interested in high adventure, career exploration and hobby interests.  The program is structured around the interest area of the youth supported by the expertise and resources of the chartering organization.  Exploring helps expose high school students to the vast career opportunities available and assists them in making informed occupational choices.  Both Venturing and Exploring include a variety of service, outdoor, fitness and social activity.  Venturing/Exploring - 14 through 20 year-old young men and women.

Currently The Golden Spread Council is providing Boy Scout programs to 227 Hutchinson County residents thru 4 Hutchinson County Cub Scout Packs and 4 Hutchinson County Boy Scout Troops.

How We Have Helped

A boy in our troop joined Scouts when he was 11. His parents were divorced, and the father was absent from the boy’s life. The mother wanted her son to have positive male influence in his life, so she picked Troop 507. We watched as the boy grew from a quiet and shy little boy to a very strong Senior Patrol Leader of the troop. The world is starving for positive role models, and values that Scouts gives through programs and the Scout Oath, and Scout Law. This young man is now an Eagle Scout and going to college. His mother couldn't be prouder of that lost, shy little boy that just needed a chance to prove his worth. Now he'll give back to the very program and communities he's help improve through Scouting. The world and our communities need Scouting more than ever.
